Disgusting, dreary, awful book
Forgotten Bones
This without doubt is the most disgusting of the thousands of books I have read in my long life.
This is a spoiler of only the first 50 pages I read before I gave up in disgust The only good thing about it was that it was a free 1st of the month Kindle book.
It opens with a very unsavory couple driving away after a party at a friend's house. The man is more in love with his BMW that his girlfriend, who is completely smashed from drinking a bottle of wine. He is sober, but when she decides to have oral sex with him, he begins to swerve all over the road, first on the shoulder, and then into the other oncoming lane. One might think he would pull over and park, but oh, no.
Next in this charming scene, she vomits all over him, and then he vomits, and then crashes into a power pole. They are taken away in an ambulance and the only decent character, a police officer shows up. She stays to wrote a report. The rest of that scene is not too bad.
Later on we segue to a professor who sees his wife in a cafe with his brother, who is groping her which she seems to enjoy. The professor, who incidentally suffers from schizophrenia, goes in and beats the heck out of his brother. The the prof's wife leaves him and marries his brother.
Later the cop goes to a nursing home that is absolutely horrible to talk to a woman there whose son is a pedophile. Another dismal section,
The poor prof moves to a California town and takes a much less prestigious position at lower pay in a collage. He has no belongs to speak of as he let his wife have it all. He moves into a dreary apartment, the description of which goes on for pages, also very dismal.
There was a little more. The ccp's boss was not too bad, the only two characters who were not despicable.
The text is full of filthy language for no reason at all other than the anther must think that is necessary, or maybe that is the way she talks. I don't care.
At this point on page 50 I gave up in disgust.
