The CFX95DZW was GARBAGE!!...but CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT....once I got the correct 800 number
If it were possible to give this CFX95DZW a negative review, I would give it a -5. It worked exactly two months then totally failed costing us over $70 in lost food. We pulled some frozen fish out of the freezer section on Mother's day evening and all was good; the next day (Monday) we went to pull some more fish out of the freezer and found everything defrosted and no display lighting. The fuse checked good and the troubleshooter explanation was "Integrated mains adapter is defective. This can only be repaired by an authorized service centre." This cooler has only been operated on the 120v AC side. The total defrost took less than 24 hours with the cooler closed and with the Dometic insulated cover installed. THIS COOLER COST US $1060 DOLLARS ON AMAZON IS TOTALLY UNRELIABLE!!!
UPDATE #1:
Here is a brief synopsis:
a. CFX95DZW purchased on Amazon on 7Mar18
b. CFX95DZW delivered on 13Mar18. Box was put into service that day.
c. CFX95DZW failed on 14May18. Dometic was contacted at 1-800-544-4881 that morning. I was given a list of repair centers.
d. CFX95DZW was taken to an authorized repair center on 14May18 per Dometic instruction.
e. 17May18 I received a call back from the repair center telling me that although they were an "authorized repair center" they had been instructed to have me call 804-746-1313 (Dometic US on the East Coast).
f. I called the above number and was told to email them a photo of the serial number (from the bottom of the CFX95DZW and a copy of the Amazon invoice. The representative indicated that once they were in receipt of this information they would "normally" send me a replacement and I would send the defective unit back to them in the shipping box.
1. I inquired if this unit had a "history" of failures of this nature and was informed that this was not common and that they stood behind their products. The representative made the point that they sell "thousands" of these units and a few are bound to have issues...at this point the jury is out and I'm waiting to be informed of the Corporate decision....updates to follow.
UPDATE #2
g. An RGA (Return Goods Authorization) was issued the day I called the 804-746-1313 number (17May18).
1. The replacement CFX95DZW arrived on 21May18, and is working flawlessly so far (two hours as of this writing)
2. There were no shipping instructions or shipping labels for the return of the old unit so I called 804-746-1313 once again. I was told the unit was "trash" and to dispose of it.
3. I emailed Dometic for confirmation and left the old unit in the Dumpster in the yacht club.
SUMMARY:
--When this CFX95DZW is working, it's very good...as one would expect for something that cost close to $1,100.
--Based on the reviews it seems apparent that production quality control is not consistent...issues range from complete failures to USB issues.
--Those that purchased a "good unit" have had no issues, and those who got a poor unit had a wide range of problems.
--Customer service was excellent once in communication with the right part of Dometic (The correct number is NOT in the manual).
--If you're planning on being offshore and needing to rely on this unit, I would suggest getting it early and running it for several months prior to trusting it's reliability. When you're in the middle of the ocean or in a foreign country, it's a bit late for customer service. My experience is that meantime failures for refrigeration/electronics tend to be in the early life of the units.
--Due to the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE alone, I'll update again and increase the rating if the unit functions as it should for more than a couple of months.
Update #3
The unit shipped to me by Dometic in May 2018 has worked flawlessly for eight months of continuous use. It has run on either DC (when underway) or AC (when we have shore power. It keeps ice cream rock hard and refrigerated items at a constant 34-36 degrees F. The issue now is the longevity of the unit. We're hopeful that a unit costing $1,100 has a reasonably long operating life. We keep it insulated in a Dometic flexible case and insure that the compressor is clean.
Update #4
We just returned from a year at sea with constant use on both AC and DC power. I had purchased a backup main PCB board from Dometic ($25) prior to departure...and I needed it. The bottom line with this CFX95DZW is that when it works, it works well...but it has issues with the electronic components (Three PCB main boards...one defective within weeks of first use, a second within the first year and a third still working in the second year. When I called Dometic to order a backup board, they were not available. The compressor and other mechanical components have never been a problem an the unit has an emergency overide that works. Dometic tell me that the CFX3 addresses these issues. CUSTOMER SERVICE is responsive and helpful. The two star rating is due to the repeated failure of the PCB board, The unit was below deck and never subject to direct water (salt or fresh) exposure...but IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT IT WAS IN A MARINE ENVIRONMENT!
We are thinking of upgrading to the new CFX3 series based mostly on the HIGH QUALITY OF DOMETIC CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
