As others aptly stated, you get what you pay for. This item is no exception. After opening box #1 and pulling out all the pieces, I found one side was virtually broken in half (all but three inches across was cracked in half). I called customer service late on Sat afternoon and was more than pleased a human actually answered. That being said, she said the company (South Shore) would ship a replacement (C-1) out, BUT, it will be about ten days before it arrives. That is a total bummer, because this is part of an entire wall system I am attempting to build, customize and fill up! There are a few other issues I have with this bookcase - (1) the color. It is a very very dark cherry, and when next to another piece "Cherry" it looks black. (2) the plastic pieces for each shelf are completely inadequate, so plan to replace these with metal if you want to place anything which weighs more than a few ounces (3) the stability of the shelves are questionable as well. I may very likely use the broken side piece to support the shelves (4) I was quite surprised and disappointed to receive a very poor quality bookshelf which will take a lot of extra work and replacement piece to make the two I ordered workable for my application - to house books! Yes! Imagine having a book case which is so flimsy it is highly doubtful it will actually hold the weight of books. So, depending upon your intended us, be aware these are questionable.
