Be Forewarned - Read My Experience with This Satellite Dish
Bought this about a year ago with the receiver bundle. Had issues with it from the beginning. There have been only a few times when I received ALL the channels, even with a clear view of the southern sky. It has always had great difficulty locking onto the HD satellite (129, I think). Defaults to SD way too often. Currently, even with sunny skies, Fox-CNN-Food Network-HGTV are all choppy and breaking up. I am a very unhappy camper, literally -- I live in a motorhome. Reception in virtually all western states I've traveled to is the same -- lousy. I have thrown in the towel and ordered a Winegard, which can be used with the 211z receiver. I am told Winegard is the gold standard. I'll come back and update this review with my findings. [Update April 20] I received the new satellite dish today from Amazon, the Winegard Dish Playmaker. After installing the handle, I walked outside and simply replaced the King unit with the Winegard by screwing in the cable - it's powered via the cable. After rebooting the receiver, the Winegard locked onto the 3 satellites and I was up and running with all channels, including locals, coming in perfectly in HD -- no choppiness, no drops, no defaulting to SD. After a couple of hours, it started raining and the dish was still pulling in everything perfectly. I can't believe I've suffered for an entire year with an inferior product. It wasn't the 211z receiver, it wasn't Dish network, it wasn't customer service, it wasn't the U.S. Air Force -- it was the lousy King product. It was an expensive lesson, but I'm happy now here in central Oregon. [Update May 2017] I decided to remove the dome of the King dish (don't do this, it voids your warranty if you still have one) to see what could have caused my bad experience. I discovered that there is no weather sealing--no gasket between the dome and the base. There was evidence that rainwater--a lot of rainwater--had accumulated inside and the interior was still damp. Gee, do ya think that could affect the electronics? (The unit was never sitting in water but mounted on a pedestal). Additionally, the tolerance of the horizontal rotating tray was very loose. It seems a slight breeze could have knocked it out of alignment. Your experience may vary. Perhaps your unit is perfectly pulling in all signals. Mine never did. This being my first dish, I just chalked it up to imperfect technology. Little did I know I had a lemon. Still, the design of the unit is faulty. Why have the dish if you have to cover it every time there's a rain shower?
