I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be drinking out of this thing...
My kettle came in with suspicious black particles coating various parts of the inside. So, okay, I rubbed those off and then I put some boiling water in there and then poured that out. I then proceeded to rub the inside with my finger... and more black particles came off. Repeat boiling and rubbing 2 more times and the particles still come off. Plus the inside does not feel smooth. It feels like it has more parts of it just ready to come off.
I'm not really sure what this stuff is (looks like paint particles or something.), but it doesn't seem like it would be healthy for me to drink from this. So I'm just going to return it immediately. There is another one of those Old Dutch Cast Iron teapots on here where it has a reviewer mentioning the same thing, just that it happened to her later on (about a year in). There was another commenter that concurred. And who knows, that might have just been after she noticed it, and it had been happening all along.
So, I don't know if mine is a unique experience or not, or if it's some kind of degradation in manufacturing quality over time, but I'm going to warn the rest of you and keep whatever has been inside of this well away from my own insides.
