Not a Fan of the Explorer "TItanic" K2 Kayak
I really, really, really wanted this to be a fun solution to my lack of kayak storage space problem. Based upon the other reviews, it seemed like a great option for recreational kayaking for two people. My friend and I are both short petite women (4'11 and 5'4), so we weren't deterred by the lack of space. It arrived just in time for a maiden voyage yesterday, and it literally stayed buoyant and inflated for less time than it took to inflate it. Yes, that's right, it sank like a stone. I'm nicknaming it Titanic for obvious reasons.
We followed all instructions in setting up Titanic, including carefully inflating it and sealing each valve. The two main chambers have very sturdy air valves, and these did not fail. The floor, however, has a very poorly constructed valve that under pressure, "pops" up. This isn't necessarily a problem, except that in our case, the vinyl around the valve split.
Within about 10 minutes of kayaking on a stillwater lake, the floor collapsed and the kayak folded inward. We were literally sandwiched between the two main compartments, and the kayak began to sink just enough to let a lot of water in.
We beached Titanic and had to push the sides of it outward to free our legs because of the floor collapse.
Pros:
Inexpensive
Only took 15 minutes to inflate
Gives people with real kayaks something to make fun of as yours sinks
Cons:
Took less than 10 minutes to deflate...while in use
Sinkable
WIll destroy your ego in less than 10 minutes as people with real kayaks laugh at your misadventure
