PETOWNERS BEWARE
Dog food has changed ALOT over the past few years. As pet owners were willing to spend more money feeding their pets, larger corporations bought out the smaller dog food companies and changed the ingredients without notifying the customers. This was particularly true of the more expensive brands that contained the higher quality ingredients. Real meat and rice were substituted with "meat by-product" and cheap imported grains (particularly CORN) that were determined to be "unfit for human consumption". They are taking ingredients that used to be considered "waste" and packaging it up as "healthy & nutritious" food for your beloved pet. Our once healthy pets are contracting debilitating diseases and dying because of the toxic waste materials that are currently being marketed as pet food. When we initially tried this dog food, to our knowledge, they had not yet "sold-out", nor had their initial recipe been altered. Back in the summer of 2010, we switched our shelties over to this food after having lost one to what was later confirmed via autopsy & toxicology report from a credible University Vet School as "aflatoxin poisoning" from the "healthy & nutritious" dog food we were buying and feeding him. This was NOT cheap food folks. This was a well-known brand, highly marketed as "Natural", that we were paying $60/bag for. The FDA analysis of this food verified that it contained toxins, but NOTHING was done to the dog food manufacturer. They are still producing their "high priced waste" and heavily marketing it as "natural". While our remaining dogs initially seemed to enjoy this food, they later developed reactions that our vet suspected were from the Blue Buffalo dog food. We later learned that the company had indeed switched out the more expensive ingredients for cheaper by-products "on the quiet". Last year, they were forced to admit these changes when they were sued. [...] My advice to pet owners: Read the ingredients labels thoroughly and often! It is VERY frustrating to know that, even when you are as diligent as you can be, you can still be purposefully mislead. These "pet food" companies and conglomerates are lierally MOVING TARGETS. Since taking our dogs off of this food several years ago, we switched them to an ALL ORGANIC, GRAIN-FREE diet. Although its a little more expensive initially, it REALLY pays off in the end as, like with ORGANIC food for people, (a) because it is recognized by the body as REAL food with REAL nutrients vs nutrient deficient by-products and chemicals, the dogs eat (and defecate) MUCH LESS, and (b) the dogs are MUCH healthier and therefor at the vets less often. Do your homework on these treacherous companies, and do it OFTEN. Don't wait until it's too late for your beloved pet.
