It's matte, it's black.... ish, but mostly it's disappointing. The paint when wet is definitely black and easily as dark or darker than the Citadel Abaddon Black I use on my Warhammer miniatures, however when it dries it turns a dark grey that, while fairly matte, is notably lighter in shade than black. I tried thinning it with a little water as is recommended when painting with Citadel paints, I tried using it without thinning, I tried 2 thin coats, I tried 3 thin coats, I tried 2 uncut coats, and nothing changed the depth of the black or how matte it is. It's an interesting effect (thus 2 stars not 1) but it is definitely NOT the black that is advertised. Oh, and it does smell of cherries which is... odd.
