This company does not support its products, which are prone to failure in cold weather.
WARNING: Do not buy products from this company, as they were completely unresponsive to all my requests for support.
I received the product on Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). I followed the detailed instructions for syncing the display unit with the outdoor sensor. Everything went off without a hitch, so I waited the recommended amount of time and then moved the sensor outside. It was mounted approximately 2-3' from the display unit; the two were separated by only a wooden window frame. Communication between the two remained strong throughout the day (the temperatures were in the 40s and 50s).
The next morning (Saturday), I discovered that the display unit had lost sync with the outdoor sensor. The outdoor temperature was in the 30s. I brought the sensor inside and went through the arduous task of clearing all memory and resyncing. The process once again went off without a hitch. Within hours of moving the sensor outside, however, the two units had once again lost sync.
This began an entire weekend of syncing and resyncing the display unit with the outdoor sensor. I even went so far as to replace the brand new alkaline batteries I was using with a brand new set of alkaline batteries from the other major battery brand. Same result. Eventually, either the display unit or the sensor gave up, as they stopped syncing altogether. This was after 5 or 6 syncing sessions.
La Crosse's customer support page has a lot of data, I will give it that. But the goal of this data dump appears to be discouraging contact with customer service. And when you look for contact info, there is s STRONG push for you to email rather than call. The page claims that emails are responded to "2 to 3 times faster" than phone calls, but also indicates that response time for emails can be 3-5 days depending on volume.
On Monday morning I emailed customer service using the form at their support page. Suspiciously, I did not get an email acknowledgement of my request for support. I had decided that I was going to be very patient and wait for a response, but my patience finally ran out on Thursday when 4 days had passed without either an acknowledgement or a response. I called their customer support number (not toll-free), where the system placed me on hold for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes it went to a voice mail prompt, asking for a phone number and brief message. I left my phone number, a description of my issue, and a referral back to my original email request. I waited 24 hours but did not receive a response to my voice mail.
On Friday I called the customer-service number again. This time, when I was dumped into the voice-mail system, I tried getting around it to a live operator. No go. The system disconnected the call. I tried another tactic - waiting on hold for five minutes and then, when dumped into the voice-mail system, hanging up and starting over. Again, no result. I finally left another voice mail demanding a response within 2 hours. It has now been 36 hours without a response.
So in short, if you buy a product from this company it is likely to fail in colder weather (see the numerous other reviews to that effect), and when it does fail, the company is unlikely to support it (again, see the numerous other reviews to that effect).
