Trying too hard to please
I have been reading the Smithsonian for over 20 years, but it's become trendy and chic. It used to have fine articles on obscure, fascinating bits of history that you wouldn't get in school. I found it had a way of making the past real and compelling. I am not renewing my subscription, however, because that magazine has ceased to exist. It has become more of a jet-setter's travelogue or infomercial for some current event, with the occasional overlong pop-art piece. Much like all media nowadays, once profit enters the picture, it seems that quality vanishes. And that's a shame, because the Smithsonian was truly unique.
