A perfect scenario for ROOT ROT!
I liked everything about these pots EXCEPT for the drainage system. I have never seen a pot where the drain holes were almost 2 inches ABOVE the bottom of the pot. Usually the drain holes are at the very bottom. What a waste of space! Rather than being a height of 8.7 inches, with the design of the drainage system, you've cut the height down to only a little over 6 inches.
After kicking myself for not reading the description more carefully. I ended up putting small styrofoam pieces in the bottom of the pot, hoping to prevent roots from getting into the part of the pot BELOW the drainage holes. I doubt it will prevent root rot, but at $40, I didn't just want to store them in our garden shed. And I know I could probably return them, but packaging them up and shipping them back is something I rarely do. Too much of a hassle.
Hey! SOLUTION: Get out your drill and put small, new holes in the very bottom of the pot. They will allow for that bottom 1 1/2 or 2 inches to drain off ALL the water at the bottom. (see pictures) The first picture shows how the drainage holes were configured b the manufacture (except that I drilled them out a bit more to make them slightly larger). The 2nd picture shows the pot after I drilled the additional holes in it.
