I don't know if the one I received was defective but I had to return it. Look at the photo of the item. The male part of the extender that fits into your receiver is NOT typical. The length from the weld in the middle of the item to the hole measured 2 3/4 inches. My receiver requires 3 1/2 inches and therefore the holes did not match up. I then measured 4 other ball hitches and receiver mounted racks that I own and they all measured at least 3 1/2 inches of length from the center of the hole until a weld or other obstruction. I attached a photo comparing the item with two other ball hitches to give you an example of the problem. You can clearly seethe difference comparing the item in the middle with the two hitches above and below. Hope this helps some of you!
