Horror is reading this drivel
Post apocalyptic fiction is my favorite genre. The act of reading this book frustrated me as it degrades other work in this category. Normally I would have stopped reading early in a work this bad, but as I was a captive audience on a long flight, I muddled through. My time would have been better spent sleeping. Nothing happens in the book and I kept hoping the main characters would die so we could move on to something (anything) of interest. In this type of fiction I like to see either the way society collapses or a rich description of the world if we pick up the tale years later. Nope. Cold, dark, ash, hungry, repeat ad nauseam. There, now you don't have to read the book. There is no action and nothing happens. Don't get me wrong. I don't need car chases and explosions. I can happily consume reams of good dialog. Nothing doing. The conversations are mindless and constant. Here is an example "Okay. You Okay? Okay. Sure? Cold. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Hungry? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Okay." I am not kidding. Pages of this twaddle run the length of this book. I was contemplating slashing my wrist but the plastic airline knife did not appear up to the task. Save your money. Save your time. Save the aggravation and pick up one of the many other high quality works in this field. Now 2022 why did Amazon bury / remove my review. I see many less helpful reviews... but mine is gone.
