food poisoning from elderberries
Be careful! Our 6 year old ate a handful - size of these dry berries and he liked them. But in 3-4 hours he start vomiting for 4 hours. End up in emergency room - food poisoning from elderberries. Even dry they should not be eaten without cooking with high temperature due to hydrogen cyanide. Its level depends on soil they grow, type of berries and the way they were dried. There is no sign on the package or on-line that berries can be poisonous if eaten dry or raw and NEVER should not be consumed at all by kids under 12 as doctor stated.
