It’s...Not Good
I can’t believe the number of positive reviews this book has generated. It’s really not well written. Honestly it reads like a poorly edited first draft. My biggest complaint is that it’s about 100 pages too long. There is WAY too much repetitive descriptive filler. “I poured merlot, I need a drink, I walked into the study, it was dark and rainy outside”. This internal monologue in Anna’s Head accounts for about 25% of the book. As a result, the pacing is ruined. Had the editors kept the writing tight, it would have been a HUGE improvement on the overall storyline. As for the storyline itself...it’s okay. The first big twist was very obvious from early on. The final twist at the end was less predictable because it was unrealistic and didn’t fit well with the way the author had fleshed out and set up the characters in the first half of the book. The ending felt rushed and sloppy. I’m giving 2 stars only because there was potential. It wasn’t completely awful. But it wasn’t good.
