Used to love it!!!
I used to love this dog food. My 3 year old black golden has severe allergies but I still wanted to feed her something high in protein with good ingredients. She's my best friend. This food fit the bill. One protein. Few fillers (easily digestible ones like tapioca and peas). Really, I did my homework, and I loved this food. I had Penny Lane on the lamb meal formula(now lamb and pea formula), and it was the only food I had found that worked well for her.
In April, the company changed the formula to produce it cheaper. And they raised the price. They cut the main source of protein (lamb meal has 300 times the protein then actual lamb does as an ingredient in dog food because of the moisture content) with pea protein. So its protein is now largely plant based and the protein content is 22%, down from 29%. IU already had her on meds for her summer time allergies this week so the food change on top of that did not do her well. I had to drive for three hours to get the only bag of the old formula I could find.
A few days ago natures variety announced that it has sold a large amount of stock to Agrolimen. A European company that owns many affinity pet food companies (think: euro friskies) not to mention fast food, ect. http://www.affinity-petcare.com/en/index.htm
In other words: They sold out. After much more research, I am going to try switching to Zignature.Zignature Lamb Dry Dog Food, 27-Pound
On the other hand, Amazon was great with my screwed up subscribe and save shipment. I don't think nature's variety bothered to tell Amazon to change the product description. (thank you amazon)
