★★☆☆☆
Needlessly complicated
Had much higher hopes for this. Contrary to some other parents’ experiences, the app setup went fine for me, though its a lot to download. There’s no singular app containing different games. Instead, its 11 separate apps split out into individual spelling activities. And unfortunately, the apps aren’t intuitive for kids so don’t assume you won’t need to supervise. Getting from one step to another is rarely clear, and the mini “games” are either pointless or arduous. I’m sure someone else here does have a 3yo who “loves it” but I guarantee they’re just interacting randomly. For it to be rewarding in any way, your child needs to already know how to spell words. We have a very bright and tech-savvy 4yo and she wasn’t digging it at all. Square Panda isn’t so much a bridge between letter learning and word building as it is an aid for kids who can already identify and form words. If you want learning apps, try LeapFrog instead. Less rigid, more multidisciplinary, and much clearer instructions.
