When exposed to flame, silk will burn and turn to ash. Whatever material these gloves are made of seems to be man-made because it melts like polyester when exposed to flame. Picture shows tip of a glove finger that was exposed to flame - it melted and became rock hard when it cooled :-( These gloves do not feel like silk nor did they wash like silk - and now I know it is because they are NOT SILK :-((((
