Another Anti American Book
After reading this it was clear the author was another who makes his living of off hating the very people who guarantee the blanket of freedom that he comfortably lives under while enjoying fine dining in New York City restaurants while others risk their lives for that freedom. The men described in this book are not perfect, and they would be the first to say that. They are thoroughbreds that are trained to do the most difficult and deadly assignments conceivable in the US military. They are sent on endless deployments to kill our enemies. The author refers many times to Cmdr. Richard Marcinko, the founder of SEAL Team 6. Marcinko was given an impossible task, to create a hostage rescue an special operations team on par with British SAS in less time then it takes for a recruit to complete BUDS and become a SEAL. He did accomplish this task and put together a group that was the best of the best at the task they were trained for. It was the political hacks and untrained senior military Perfumed Princes that destroyed SEAl Team 6. They took the original purpose of their training and morphed them into fictional supermen that could do it all. These men were used over and over and over again to perform at levels that no human should be forced to perform. They were forced to ignore fatigue and sever injuries to go outside the wire each and very night to kill the enemy. If they showed any signs of weakness, they were pulled from their teams. The most important ting in their lives, to fight alongside their team mates would be taken from them. Their careers would be over and they would never do what they love with the men that they live for, again. There was no care for them. There was no therapy for them. The only way that there was even a pension, was in the unlikely event that they were able to hang on for the mandatory 20 year retirement period. This is unlikely due to the serious and constant injuries, drugs required just to keep going, concussions, TBI, divorces due to constant deployment and mandatory training, etc, etc. To sit in his ivory tower and malign an entire elite military unit in which every single member accomplishes more by 9:00 am, than he could ever accomplish in 10 lifetimes is sick. Are there bad members of this unit, I am sure without doubt. Are most of these men heroes and willing to lay down their lives for every man next to them or any innocent American citizen, absolutely. The author criticizes those members of SEAL Team 6 that tries to make money off of their exploits. What is wrong with that? John McCain made an entire career off of his POW status in Vietnam. The author did not indicate the percentage of SEAL's that actually complete 20 years of service. I would guess that the percentage is very low, especially given the pace of combat operations over the last 20 years. He also just brushes over the impact of poorly trained senior officers with little or no combat experience. That is probably the biggest issue. The rot starts at the top, as proven with the Chief Ed Gallagher situation. Again the author gives credence to the testimony of those who accused Chief Gallagher with zero mention that all of those fellow SEAL's were completely discredited as was the entire military legal team that pursued Chief Gallagher. From the incompetent and corrupt defense team, to his illegal pre-trial confinement, to the actual spying on his replacement legal team by the prosecution. None of this was mentioned. He glossed over Adm. Green and the Master Chief responsible for much of the illegal actions that Chief Gallagher and his family suffered through. It is no wonder that those who go outside the wire hundreds of times are so risk-averse that they would even consider lying about mission results. One slip up will end the career that they live for. Some JAG officer, looking to make his career off of jailing a SEAL could send them to prison and frame them, just as they tried to do with Chief Gallagher. It is up to the senior military and civilian leaders to change this, but looking at what we see today, this will not happen. Warriors like those who risk everything they have to protect this country, are nothing but cannon fodder for politicians to throw into the fray, and then make them wait years to see a VA doctor. Tell me how the members of DEVGRU are the bad ones.
