If you can, buy another aquarium lid. Although this seems like a great lid, it has a number of drawbacks. (I've owned three of them, all with the same issues). First of all, the small plastic connectors used to attach the hood to your aquarium are difficult to attach to the tank and easily broken (but it does come with several backups). The LED lights are nice and bright, work well for a planted tank, and the blue light is gorgeous and efficient for night. The lights, however, stopped working within several weeks. They are not water-resistant in any sense of the word, and although they were never exposed to direct water, just being in close proximity to the aquarium caused the switch to rust over and stop working. The lights are essentially still functional, but the switch no longer works to turn them on. With replacement LED strips selling for around $35.99, you'll be quickly left with a hood with no lights.
