This radio is advertised as an Atomic Clock Radio. ...
This radio is advertised as an Atomic Clock Radio. It is NOT. For those that don't know, an atomic clock is a clock that is capable of receiving a signal sent in a radio signal from a transmitter in Boulder Colorado. That signal has current time and date, traceable to an atomic clock. The idea is that the radio receives this signal multiple times each day to keep the time on the clock current and accurate, so you never need to set it. This clock does NOT receive the signal. I had it two days and every hour it tried to receive the signal, but never did. I have three other atomic clock capable clocks in my house, so I know the signal is receivable at my house.
I called Sangean and talked with their service tech and he confirmed that the clock radio does NOT function as an atomic clock. He told me to set it up to sync with an RDS radio station. That will work, but problem is, it only syncs time if the radio is turned on, whereas the atomic clock function will work regardless of whether the radio is turned on and tuned to a radio station broadcasting RDS data.
The tech who is in California confirmed that he tried to receive the atomic clock signal on one of the RCR-22 radios in his office, and it would NOT work. Apparently they know it doesn't work as advertised. He told he he sent an email to management and he said they would have to change the motherboard in the radio to get it to work as advertised.
Bottom line is, if you want this radio to work as advertised as an atomic clock radio, do NOT buy it, because it doesn't work as advertised.
