I feel ripped off
Last 31 days. It sounded wonderful and was a joy to use but it wasn't able to play at loud volumes. Anything over 50 volume or so caused it to overheat. Now it's permanently in protection mode with no speakers attached. Amazon won't accept returns on this item so they probably know its junk. Denon sucks. I'm out 1300$ and I already sold my Yamaha which worked perfectly for years. Update---Finally got Amazon to return it and it was replaced. It now works but it doesn't work with HDMI 2.1 devices which is kind of why I bought it. As soon as you set it to 2.1 you get no signal. I tried the workaround they suggested but it doesn't work either. I can get a signal from my 3080 graphics card to the TV but as soon as I plug it into the receiver with eArc the signal disappears. I bought 4 different cables but the test feature of the receiver doesn't work either. I can test the same cable 10 times and it randomly fails or passes with no reason given. I can also confirm that with both the Denon receivers I used it often won't process Atmos signals. Again it appears to be random. I can watch a movie one night and get Atmos then the next night it won't even do 5.1 when nothing has changed. Sometimes it will only use the front sometimes it will use all 9 speakers and oddly enough sometimes it only uses 4 speakers. This receiver is complete junk. It sounds good but my 500$ Yamaha was superior in every way. It worked EVERY SINGLE TIME I used it. It always processed the right signal and had a better remote. I'll never buy another Denon again. Update 2---Denon released a fix for the HDMI 2.1 bug. It's a breakout box. For some reason I thought they would provide more 2.1 connections but they kept it to just the one. As I'm now using the new Apple TV 4k it has 2.1 but there's no way to use it because Denon is ghetto and cheap and didn't give us more HDMI 2.1 ports. I can now pass 4k 120hz on my PC but I pay for it with absolutely horrible handshake issues. The receiver cuts in and out constantly and randomly decides to not display video. I have to reboot all my devices 12-15 times a day. I paid a lot of money for this receiver and what I got was one headache after another. I can't wait to upgrade to a quality receiver to enjoy my otherwise awesome gear. Update 3---The hand shake issue is completely out of hand. I'm now rebooting it 30-40 times a day. I've tried every combination of turn on order but because of the stupid breakout box nothing works. It also has taken to turning itself off randomly and because I have to use eArc on my devices (only one HDMI 2.1 port) getting it back to having it recognize my display is a 15 minute ordeal of rebooting and unplugging all my HDMI cables. I can't wait to sell this thing. It doesn't even sound good anymore. I suspect some capacitors are going bad as it overheats a lot and the volume is noticeably quieter. Atmos still occasionally works but it appears to be random and not based on the input signal.
