I purchased this so you wouldnt have too.
This particular book I feel by WOTC is trending down the path of bad ideas under the woke agenda once again. Its less noticable but they are proud to be written by non-white indivudals especally certain sections having no white writers. Okay? The book encourages unique themes, of different cultures. Thats a good thing I agree. However, the book tells you in quotes "One persons culture isnt another's costume. If you dress up, simple outfits are best, avoid leaning into sterotypes or clothing with real world religious significance. Instead, focus on everyday wear from the cultures your exploring. Dont change your skin color, alter your features, or emulate hair styles you wouldnt normally have toappear like a different real-world ethnicity. Similarly, avoid mocking real-world accents in your roleplay." This is wrong. This is a fantasy game, if I want to be black, female with bright yellow robes, I can do it. WOTC doesnt have the right to tell me what I choose to be. If I want to emulate another fantasy culture because I like it and I want to show my appreciation of it and "represent" it, that isnt wrong in the slightest way. These writers need to check themselves and anaylize why they are writing what they do.
What are some alternative things you can purchase instead? The sword coasts adventurers guide has a list of races you can emulate and it doesnt try to preach to you, it isntead encourages it. Older editions such as 1E Oriental adventures on DrivethruRPG offer a great selection. You can even find these books on Amazon if you want to spend a little more.
