DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE!
I'm sincerely hoping that I received a DOA (Dead On Arrival) unit. Why? Because if you need support from ASUS on this model, you're out of luck. The drive is a bare-bones package, and the install disk doesn't even have the drivers on it. It has a link to point you to the ASUS website for updated drivers, but when you get there, it asks you to choose your OS from the drop down menu (required) ... and there are no choices.
That's likely because there are no drivers for this actual drive. After an hour-long Google search down the rabbit hole of owners with the exact same problem, I contacted ASUS support. Needless to say, they weren't very helpful. All their support links are simply scripts leading you back to the same broken support page. Their "live support" link tells you (after a 15-minute delay) that "All Engineers Are Busy" and to send an e-mail to support.
I got the e-mail from support this morning -- and the first thing they asked was if I had downloaded the newest drivers from their site -- and sent me the link to the page where you can't choose your OS for the drivers.
Sigh.
Look elsewhere. Save yourself the hassle. I hope when Amazon sends the replacement unit it works right out of the box, because if it doesn't, I know ASUS will not help me.
UPDATE: Two weeks later, I received a reply from ASUS. It didn't help, but at least this response wasn't canned. I also found out that some companies manage their feedback on sites like Amazon, and that's where some of the positive reviews come from and the downranking of the negative responses ... like this one.
