Dangerous - Not Worth The Effort...
Purchased prior to a camping trip. Package arrived undamaged from Amazon. First use and the thing didn't work correctly. The entire face of the unit became engulfed in a large blue flickering flame that would extend out over the metal face.
Contacted the company, was sent a poorly designed .pdf with instructions on disassembling the entire unit and cleaning it. They also explained that they *frequently* have these problems and that the units are kept unsealed and unprotected from the environment *after* they perform their testing. I asked them to refund my purchase and they said 'No'. I asked them to send a replacement and they said 'No'. They offered to clean it for me (asserting that everything is fine and it just needs to be cleaned, being brand new) but I would be required to pay shipping. On a brand new device I've used for 30 seconds....seems a bit ridiculous. Particularly after their original cleaning failed to do the trick.
I attempted to follow the instructions and clean it myself. First, instead of having to remove six screws as specified in the instructions, my device was MISSING two screws. As in, there was no screw in holding the plastic case together, just a hole. No idea why or how some of them would be missing. Makes me terrified about what else they've missed. There is another 1-star review on here with images showing you where the guy had to add another screw to the INSIDE of the unit - so this seems to be a relatively common problem. You also need to remove/destroy part of the decorative sticker in order to remove the right side of the unit (as per the instructions). So, even if it does work, it's going to look like crap, at least compared to a new heater. Maybe you don't care, I really don't, but it certainly shows a lack of design consideration when you tell customers to destroy the stickers in order to clean the product.
Also, the instructions suck. And if you're like me, you don't have a 2" pipe cleaner laying around the house. Nor do I have an air compressor laying around, per the instructions I was given via email. Also, if this is so common, why aren't these additional instructions included with the product? There is a maintenance section in the included instructions, but if you aren't handy, you're screwed. If you're handy, have some tools, and don't mind wasting an hour to clean a brand new device, maybe this is the product for you.
Maybe you'll have better luck than I, but both the instructions and the customer support team have told me that FREQUENT AND REGULAR CLEANINGS are required. I didn't see any mention of that on the Amazon description. Funny how that is.
