This product is NOT equivalent to the GE Filter that it is imitating. The GE Filter is NSF 42 and NSF 53 rated (which means it removes heavy metals such as lead and mercury). This filter is only NSF 42 rated, which means it makes the water taste better, but doesn't remove the damaging materials in some public water sources. I did this research so you don't have to (you're welcome!). After buying, installing and prep-ing this filter I tested the water with an electronic water tester, and the filtered water reading was nearly identical to the unfiltered water. That's why I researched it more in depth and found the info above. Hope it saves you some work and helps you understand why the GE filter is 300% more expensive than this one.
