DO NOT buy this through amazon!!!
I’ve been buying nutro (supposedly this exact formula) for a few months now. My Gwen has always loved it, so I thought I could save a little money getting it through my prime account. Well, the first time I fed Gwen this food from amazon, I realized it looked and felt different. Most of the pricier dog foods like Blue Buffalo and even Nutro have a sort of oily feel to the food, but this felt dry like cheaper made brands and the pellets looked different. I was a little concerned by this, but didn’t see why there’d be anything wrong, since it looked legitimate online.
The moment Gwen finished eating the food, she started heaving violently. I thought she was choking at first, so I began checking to see if her air ways were blocked, which they weren’t. Her legs went weak and she whimpered in pain for 5 minutes before throwing up. Then, she started drooling like mad, trying to eat anything that even looked like grass. I thought she must have some sort of blockage, or perhaps she’d eaten something sharp earlier in the day. I took her outside and she went crazy over the grass, almost choking on it she was eating it so fast. She whimpered and was sweating all over. I could barely get her out of the grass, but I dragged her away and rushed her to the nearest emergency vet. They informed me that she didn’t seem to have a blockage, but she acted like she’d gotten into something somewhat toxic. I thought she must have gotten into something outside that I’d not seen. Her vitals were good, so they gave her an anti nausea shot to get her to lay off the grass. I took her home and she settled down and seemed fine.
The next morning, I fed her a small amount of the Nutro, still unaware of it being the problem. She didn’t eat it until the evening and immediately after she did, she puked it up. I tried feeding her other food and she kept that down, which led me to believe it had something to do with the Nutro. I tried giving it to her one final time the next day with the same predictable result. So, I’m out 120 bucks for the visit with the vet, and I had to buy new food to replace this toxic swill. I’m going to be taking some of the food to my primary vet to have it tested for contaminants. Nutro has been a good brand, in my experience, but I will never order it through amazon again.
