Abundant Manufacturing Defects
Read the reviews and you will see many people experiencing problems with losing heat due to the thermal fuse burning out. I must be lucky because mine lasted a full year before burning out. Excalibur charged me $17 including shipping for a replacement fuse, which can be had for $1-2. But they cleverly don't list the fuse specs on their website, so you don't know which one to buy if you try to source it yourself. But here's where it gets really bad... The replacement fuse I was sent is rated for 121 degC. The old one that failed on me twice before was rated at 84 degC. So it would appear that the lovely folks at Excalibur have realized that their original design is flawed because the original fuse is under-sized, which is why many people have had them burn out. Therefore, this should be provided for no cost to owners of this dehydrator, because it is basically a manufacturing defect. But then I guess they couldn’t charge you 1000+% markup to buy a replacement, could they? If the heat goes out on your dehydrator, here is my advice: 1. Don’t listen to them when they try to sell you a new thermostat, I am sure your thermostat is fine. 2. Pull your bad fuse out, and if it is rated at 84 degrees C like mine was, demand that Excalibur ship you a replacement at no cost. 3. If that fails, buy one elsewhere. It is a 250 Volt, 10 Amp, 121 degC thermal fuse.
