I expected to be disappointed...
This book reminds me of those generic cookbooks that are author-less sold on the sale rack at a Barnes and Noble. The author's background is brief, can chalk it up to someone who started eating healthy and no longer is pre diabetic, according to his brief, barely a page, bio. At a minimum I have to describe the bulk of the recipes as unimaginative. Do I really need another guacamole recipe?? As many reviewers have noted, none of the recipes have macros listed. This is a huge component to the keto diet, counting macros. The author even explained why in his intro, because readers need to learn to calculate on our own and that we will change the ingredients in the recipes as we cook them anyways. Whatever kind of excuse this is, most people buy a cookbook out of convenience. Having macros and servings calculated will help out a lot for busy people trying to keep up with macros. So if you're a busy person looking for creative recipes, bypass this book. I also looked into other reviewers claims of recipes being stolen. I picked a few recipes to Google. They all were already on his website, for the most part with the same picture in this book...so basically I could have just printed every recipe from his website and called it a book. I also did a reverse image search on the photos. These photos were not taken in HIS kitchen. They are stock photos from Shutterstock, that are several years old, some of them more than 10 years!! This doesn't prove the author "stole" recipes word for word, he may have altered some recipes he googled and then just pulled a generic photo from Shutterstock. So were these recipes tried and tested? Who knows. This is just the laziest cook book on the planet. I didn't check every recipe for this, don't have time, but 100% of the recipes I did google were on his website and had a stock photo. Stock photo was used in book. One of the recipes I checked was falafel balls. The recipe is eerily similar to "I Breathe I'm Hungry"'s recipe. I really couldn't find exact copies of recipes, so I can't ding this book for stolen recipes. But like I said. Some of the recipes are super similar to popular keto bloggers. This happens when people publish recipes on the internet that are easy to tweak. Side note, crazy claim that his cheesecake recipe is becoming the most popular cheesecake recipe in keto. I will say that the recipe is flawed and incomplete. The crust doesn't need to be baked as long as stated in the recipe because it will be over baked and there needs to be pan size listed. A 9" pan for this particular recipe made the cheesecake too thick. Not possible for the middle to be cooked through without ruining the outer portion of the cake. So yeah, far from perfect. Cheesecake recipes are a dime a dozen and I've had better. Longest cookbook review ever. I feel like I put more effort into this review than the author did for his cookbook. Just wanted to put something honest out there in these reviews. As high priced as this book is, I really feel that the majority of the recipes shouldn't be found on his website. Save your money. I am very disappointed.
