Neat concept, but I'm sending it back
I have a fiberglass paddleboard that I use frequently at home for flatwater paddling. I ordered the Origami Paddler to serve as a second board primarily when traveling because it would be much easier to carry with us. The board came with an aluminum paddle that breaks down into sections and can be used at two different lengths. It also came with a decent leash and a detachable carry strap. Everything stores inside the board when folded. Unfortunately, the board arrived with one of the hinges (which are made of plastic) cracked. I contacted the manufacturer directly about the issue. They were very responsive, and agreed to send me a replacement hinge. Since the hinge was still partially attached, I buckled it up and it seemed sturdy enough to give it a try. The board was very stable and very maneuverable, and tracked acceptably. It didn't glide quite as well as my fiberglass board, but I guess that is to be expected. I paddled around for a little over an hour, covering three miles. When I got back to the dock to take the board out of the water, I noticed that one of the plastic rings used to hold the buckle straps had cracked. The board design makes it easy to replace failed parts, but the bottom line is that the plastic parts used at the stress points don't seem quite durable enough. There was noticeable "give" in the shell as I walked across the top of the board. Also, one of the board sections took on a bit of water and had to be drained (each section has drain plugs). So sadly, I've decided to send the board back. It's a neat concept, and the manufacturer support is outstanding, but I don't have confidence that the board will hold up for me in the long run.
