So I am an Olde Fashioned "Cowboy on the dusty trail" kinda beef jerky gal. I Hate Hate Hate the soft, rubbery, wet looking stuff they sell in the big retail stores. I want something that takes pliers to tear apart, and an hour to chew!. And flavor..I want good old fashioned smoked...NOT teriyaki, Not BBQ, Whiskey, Honey, etc etc....That being said I have found 2 brands that I like but am always on the hunt for new brands. I read the reviews on "Hardtimes" and thought I would try the original. In my humble opinion the taste was better then most, but not great. It was strange, some pieces were really REALLY hot/peppery, but then other pieces were bland. Some pieces were VERY smoked and the taste was delicious, but then other peices, again, were bland. So their process for seasoning, whatever that might be, does not seem to be consistent. As for the texture. I have no other word I can think of but "powdery". When you bite into a strip it just breaks in half and sort of crunches down in your mouth like a potato chip, if that makes any sense. Now don't get me wrong, I would prefer this texture to the rubbery soft stuff.....but I would rather it be tough, hard to pull apart and chew, like leather...So to sum up, not a fan of the texture, and the taste was to hit and miss for me. BUT I am sure there are tons of people who will and do love it, and thats great! I say "Try it, ya never know"!...I'm just not sure I want to spend $$$ again, sigh...I guess the hunt continues.
