Winix is an ozone generator? false advertising
I can't believe the reviews written on Amazon. Also realize that there is a man on the internet who reviews air purifiers, who may be getting paid by manufacturers to write rave reviews for some, including the Winix. The Winix box specifically states that there is a corona discharge unit in this purifier, which is an ozone generator. Corona discharge is an older technology ozone generator unit that unfortunately, leaves nitric oxide residue in your environment. You can end up with headaches and illness from it. Myself and others have experienced this firsthand. The Amazon advertisement states that this purifier does not generate ozone, which is misleading, and certainly false, as evidenced firsthand by what is written on the box. I am planning to send this back for a refund without even trying it. I did not order a corona discharge ozone unit, but my intention was to order an air purifier. For people who state that low levels of ozone are safe, you need to understand that it builds up in the room as it continues to run. Therefore, it may produce 3 ppb initially, but it continues to put that into the room so that the ozone in the room becomes higher. This idea that it rapidly converts back to water is not totally correct. If you have dry conditions, it may continue to build up in the air because it does not rapidly convert back to water in less humid conditions. Not even sure from what I have experienced that it "rapidly" deteriorates to water even when your house is humid. The idea that it is OK to breathe even low levels of ozone is not true, and can cause lung damage. I left a message with the Winix company about this problem. Will update this review if their answer leads me to a different conclusion.
