Cute game, absolutely shameful cash shop
This game is great for kids and adult fans alike. Gameloft absolutely nailed the aesthetic and sound of MLP FIM and for that I give them major kudos. Unfortunately, as soon as you start to build up your town you'll notice how horrifically unbalanced the cash shop is. I'm not above paying a little extra for something in a game I'm playing (that was free, no less), but I will NOT drop over 50$ to unlock one of the main ponies that are REQUIRED TO FINISH THE GAME. You read that correctly: one pony. You actually have to pay around 250$ to finish this game with the main 6 (the 6 main characters of the show), OR you can grind away for over two years (calculated) without spending a dime, but who is really going to do that? Parents, make sure your kids don't go buying themselves stuff with this app. It gets expensive extremely fast and for no good reason other than Gameloft relying on either bronies with too much money and too little sense, or tiny kid fingers pressing the wrong buttons and getting a sparkly new pony while their parents look on in horror. I work in video games, I know how free2play works and how a free game needs to make up extra revenue, but I also know how companies tend to abuse it and can see it from a mile away, so here's one for free Gameloft: Charge for aesthetics. Charge for things that people will WANT to buy as opposed to NEEDING. Gems for a main character? absolutely not. Grinding to get over 60,000 bits to buy a main character? I would have loved to see the exec announcing that to the developers. You've already successfully infuriated the majority of the MLP FIM fan base and I'm sure you've caused more than a few screaming matches between parents and little children. So, there you go. From a cartoon that brings joy on a weekly basis to people of all ages around the globe, to a game that will make children cry because they accidentally spent 250$ of their parents money on Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. Congratulations, GameLoft. You've successfully managed to both line your pockets and make one of the largest fan bases on the planet hate you.
