ZERO STARS: 1st Lamp DOA, replacement item also defective.
I got a lamp that did not work. It came in worst packaging I have ever seen anywhere. Even though some reviewers had warned about the quality issues and poor packing, I took a leap of faith based on number of 5 Start Reviews and ordered this. It promptly arrived in 2 days as promised by Amazon prime. That is only positive thing about this purchase. The package was received by the leasing office of my apartment community. The box it arrived in was severely damaged and the leasing office guy had to tape the box to prevent the contents from falling out. See the pictures I have uploaded and you will realize how bad the packaging was. Inside the box the lamp was wrapped in two layers of bubble wrap and fortunately it was not damaged. So I took it out and hooked with power supply but it won't power on. On closer inspection I found the dimmer switch cracked and the switch does not really turn the way a dimmer switch is supposed to. The maximum movement I can get is about 2-3 mm. Typically the dimmer switches have a dot to show the position, but this one has nothing. The switch and the power cable are the cheapest quality I have ever seen in my life. I inspected the bulb and it looked fine, so it must be the switch. But I am really shocked that Amazon would carry such a poor quality product. Since the order was stocked and fulfilled by Amazon Prime I do blame them for shipping it in a box that is clearly not designed to carry the weight of this lamp. The lamp shell which is supposedly made up of Himalayan Salt is really really heavy. The shape and color is not as good as the one shown in the product picture. See the pictures I have uploaded. I will contact Amazon and see what are my options. Looks like they are already aware of the issues and have placed it under review. I also left -ve review for packaging. Within a week amazon shipped me another one. This one came in Amazon box with air pouches around the lamp box. The lamp itself was wrapped in a bubble wrap and brown paper. I thought this was a good sign. So I took out the lamp and hooked it to the power supply and turned the switch ON. Nothing happened. This can't be happening to me twice in a row. So I checked everything again, still no luck. I removed the bulb and reset it in the socket. Still no luck. But while turning the dimmer switch I felt like the bulb powered on for a fraction of a second and died again. So I kept playing with the dimmer switch and finally after a dozen attempts the lamp powered on. YES!! Since then I have been using it regularly for past week. Most of the times it powers up but sometimes it decides to not come out of slumber. The dimmer switch is crap! Sometime it has no dimming effect and it just works as ON/OFF. The wooden base of this lamp is not level. So it stands like the Tower of Pisa and even a soft nudge shakes it as if hit by an earth quake. It looks OK when it powers on, but sadly this too is going back. I was really shocked by the poor build quality of the bulb socket and the dimmer switch. It makes the Christmas lights in Dollar Store look like Premium quality. I think it's risky to keep this thing hooked on to a power supply at home.
