Easy to Install, Easy to Use (with pictures of setup)
First things first, I'm sorry and I feel your pain. If you're reading this review, you are going through a rough time. No one buys these things for fun and whatever reason has you considering this purchase, I know it's a painful one. I pray that the need for this product is temporary and that your story has a healthy and happy ending.
I can't do much to help, really all I can do is leave the best review I know how to leave. So, let me help where I can:
SIZE
The mattress is 36" wide, 78" long, and approximately 3" thick (when inflated). The standard hospital bed is 36" x 80", meaning that this product is intended for, and therefore is a perfect fit for, an in-home hospital bed. However, all too often, hospital beds are not available or not desired. A twin mattress is 38" x 75", which provides a fairly good fit. In the pictures below, the mattress is on a king size bed (76"x80").
STABILITY
If you use this product in something that is not a hospital bed with sides, you may need something to secure this mattress to the bed to keep it from sliding. It does not come with straps to tie it down as it is intended for use in a bed that would not have any chance for slippage. (However, the instructions manual does seem to indicate it should come with straps). An appropriately sized yoga mat underneath or twin mattress topper on top will help.
SHEETS
Even if being used on a larger bed, cover this in a twin sized sheet to help with comfort.
MATTRESS PRESSURE
As seen in the pictures below, the pressure is adjustable in a range from 1 to 5. The box indicates a pressure range from 70-130mmHg, but the instructions manual indicates a range from 35-130mmHg (0.75-2.5psi, roughly). Though I have no scientific method of testing, I believe the range on the instructions manual to be the correct one. I have submitted this question to the company for clarification and will update my review when they reply. (As a sidenote mmHG is the medical unit of pressure, the same unit blood pressure is measured in.)
CYCLE TIME
The bed alternates pressure every six minutes. Pleas note this does NOT serve as a substitute for manual movement of the patient. This product will aid in the prevention of bedsores when used alongside standard medical practice for preventing bedsores, it will NOT prevent bedsores on its own.
INSTALLATION
Setup was easy and took just a few minutes. Very intuitive.
RANDOM THOUGHTS
This took about 4 minutes to fully inflate.
It's very quiet for a running motor.
The rubber tubing is high quality.
The electrical cord requires a 3-prong outlet. Unless you have an outlet at the foot of your bed, you may need an extension cord. However, the tubing length combined with the cord length allowed me to wrap it back around the side of the bed to an outlet about 6 feet away.
CONCLUSIONS
This product works wonderfully at a very good price. I highly recommend it for any temporary need. For a long-term solution, I would seek the recommendation of a doctor or medical supplies professional.
