After nearly freezing to death in my stand last winter, I vowed, "Never again!" So this year I purchased a Mr. Buddy heater and 8 1lb canisters of propane, and put them in my stand well before the season started. Last weekend, I walked to my stand at 5:15 a.m. in 30 degree temps. Not super cold for some of you snow-loving freaks up in Wisconsin, I know...but plenty cold for this Texas boy. Climb into my 4x6 stand (with metal roof), and the first thing I do (after setting down my rifle and backpack), is to start up this little heater. Screwed in a canister of propane, pushed down the pilot and it lit on the second try. Held the pilot down for about 15 seconds, and then placed on low. And then sat back and waited. About 5 minutes later, I removed my jacket and long-sleeved thermal shirt. Then watched as the frost on the windows started melting away. Within 15 minutes I was toasty warm, even with two windows cracked open a few inches. The only draw back? Fighting off the sleepy's waiting on the sun to rise and the deer to show up.
