Awkward, funny, refreshing - an instant connection!
Had an instant connection to the characters. The series, interestingly, is created and written by the two stars - Rob Delaney, who plays Rob, and Sharon Horgan, who plays Sharon. It is witty, funny, refreshing, awkward all at the same time. The characters are honest and insightful, and I was laughing all the way through every episode! It is too bad these episodes are only 25 minutes, because this series is a winner. Well acted, you really do believe these are two strangers who ended up pregnant after a week long one night stand, or as Rob puts it "I'm not a stranger, more of a familiar acquaintance". They are truly ordinary people in an awkward situation amid all the strange friendships that get even stranger when mixed with both UK (British and Irish) and US perspectives. I love the dialog...here are a few examples... In regards to having a baby: "We could do this and not f* up the kid too horribly" Regarding birth: "You see that little troll come tobogganing out of your wife, on a wave of turds, and you'll hold her responsible" Regarding the best friend's naturopathic remedies: "My guru cured himself of prostate cancer with walnuts" Rob: "Give me a break! What did he do, jam them up his a$$?" The other characters are excellent - his irresponsible model-loving friend, her best friend, Rob's mom who continues to research how to get out of this mess, etc. You'll see several people you'll recognize, such as Carrie Fisher, and that Captain from the show Outland, for example. I highly encourage you to give this show a chance - watch it all the way through, take in the catastrophic proposal, the bachelor party, the wedding night. It is NSFW, and not kid friendly.
