Works just like you need it too. The light turns on when you need it to and turns off when you no longer are near it. The light mounts on a magnetic strip with one side that has an adhesive strip. Charging the light is as simple as removing it from its magnetic strip and plugging it into a USB port. I was going to spend over a hundred dollars to add a strip light under my kitchen cabinets, but these are better. Doubles as a flashlight if the power goes out!
