There aren't words to describe how much I love this product.
****UPDATE*********
Wow I wrote that review over two years ago, it's a bit bizarre to read, but I'll keep the original spastic enthusiasm for the sake of demonstrating growth. Anyways! It's now almost the end of 2017, and these pads are still going strong. No stains, no odors, and still as strong and shapely as when I first ordered them. They wash beautifully, and I haven't really even followed any stringent washing routine and even put them through the dryer. The snaps still work perfectly, and the absorbency is unaltered. I haven't had to buy pads in years, and I can't express how good that feels! I don't have to worry about keeping stock, less than pleasant bathroom odors, or the skin irritation. Still can't say enough good things about these!
********ORIGINAL REVIEW********
I'm a recent convert to cloth menstrual pads. I had heard about them years ago but always thought "OMG I COULD NEVER DO THAT THATS GROSS AND TIME CONSUMING AND BLAH BLAH". I started using a menstrual cup about a year ago and love it, but I am particularly sensitive in that area and cannot always comfortably insert a menstrual cup so there are days where that just doesn't work for me. So I used natural, bleach free pads for a good while.
But even those natural ones would cause serious irritation to my skin. I have been prone to UTI's my whole life, well ever since I started menstruating. No one ever told me that pads can lead to UTI's. I never knew for years why I was prone to UTI's around my period. SO much antibiotic usage that could have been avoided!
I was still very nervous to take the leap, so I just ordered one package of these XL pads to see how I would feel about it. They arrived on time and packaged well, and they are so darn cute! I was actually excited for my next cycle!
USING:
Once I put one on I knew I could never go back. They. Are. So. Comfortable. Softer than regular underwear! I would forget I was wearing one!
I wore only light colored and white underwear the entire time so I knew that I could trust them without a doubt. These work 10x better than paper menstrual pads. I used them for a particularly awful period, so my flow was definitely very heavy. They never let me down! I have always had a really heavy flow and bad peroid (even while on birthcontrol, which I was prescribed to try to alleviate my peroid) and have had MANY situations of bleeding onto my underwear and pants, and quite a few in public! So I'm extremely paranoid about it and need to be able to whole heartedly trust my pad.
They absorb so much! Even on my heaviest days, I could easily get away with only wearing two a day and one at night. I could have probably gone even longer, they weren't by any means "full" or leaking, I would just change them after a certain amount of hours for hygiene purposes. Usually on my heavy days I would have to change a paper maxi pad every three hours and sometimes sooner, and would pretty much always leak at night no matter what I did. Even when I would accidently bleed onto the patterned fabric material of the wings, still not a single leak. After wearing one for just a few hours I quickly ran to the computer to order more so I could wear them my entire cycle.
I found that compared to paper products the blood stays more in one place? I guess what's happening is they are absorbing sooo much more. At first I thought my flow was just abnormally light then I realized that these cloth pads were just absorbing so much more so it wasn't going everywhere like it would with paper! I fearlessly went to the movies, out with friends, and even did some yoga in these things!
It was so nice to be able to change underwear and keep the same pad, especially if it wasn't really that dirty. I hated having to remember to coordinate bathroom trips when I needed to change my pad and underwear. I would always forget. Now I could do it whenever I wanted, snap it off and snap it back on!
They resist odor SO much better than paper pads.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the backing is made of liquid resistant material. So it's a bit slippery. These pads worked great with cotton underwear, but with a stretchy spandex one they moved around a bit more. Just something to note.
CLEANING:
THESE THINGS ARE SO EASY TO CLEAN!! I did order a different brand in a different size, so I do have a basis for comparison for these ones. When you begin to run them under the water first you will realize just how much they absorb. I will run the water on full blast and it takes a few seconds to actually soak the whole pad! The blood comes out SO well! With the other brand I could get maybe 60-70% of the stain out by handwashing. With these ones all of it come out and so much faster! Every time after just a minute or so of washing (rinsing, wringing, applying water with baking soda in it and rubbing the inside against itself) the stains are always completely gone.
I could not be more satisfied with these adorable pads. Amazing product!!
