I bought this backpack for a 3 week trip to Thailand. This qualifies as a daypack in my world. It was just the right size to fit under the seat in front of me on the airplane and allow me to carry just enough to keep me busy but not so much that it weighed me down a lot. It has a 1) vertical zipper pocket on one side with a elastic-net pocket inside and room for a small number of items (here I kept my bug repellant towelettes and emergency medicines and reading glasses), and 2) a water bottle pocket on the opposite side. The 3) square zippered pocket on the back contains pockets resembling that inside a wallet: credit card holders and a small unzipped pocket perhaps for change or to slip in a small wallet; and a long skinny pocket for pencil/pen. This square zippered pocket is protected by the steel mesh inside the material to prevent slashing/stealing. Thus I wish there was place inside that particular zippered pocket sized for a passport. Instead I put my passport in the 4) zippered pocket inside the "lid" of the pack even though there is no steel mesh there. I figured it was close to my head so I would know if something was going on there, and I used the ability to buckle the zipper handle to another steel loop to prevent simple unzipping/stealing. When I had to leave my backpack unattended on the snorkel boat, I also attached a TIA-lock. Inside the main backpack there were a 5) couple more pockets, one good sized zippered and one mesh-elastic. In the zippered pocket I carried extra batteries and my the covers for my binoculars. In the main part of the pack I was able to carry my Good camera--which is not small--a notebook, a travel journal, my kindle, a couple of packages of dry fruit and nuts, my neck pillow (deflated), and two packs of animicrobial Handiwipes. This pack looks small on arrival, but it actually holds quite a bit as I hopefully have clearly indicated.
