You CAN program this machine to have the needle stop in the UP position
Overall I am quite happy with this machine. There are a few specific things I have found - Several reviewers said that they were unhappy that the needle always ended in the down position and could not be changed. That is not correct. It does come programmed with the needle ending down, but the instruction book tells how to reset it to end in the up position. It is very simple to do - you turn the machine off, hit the button the book tells you to and turn the machine back on while holding the button. It then always ends in the up position as most of us want it to do. Two other things mentioned in other reviews are correct. First, the LED light is not very bright. If I did not have a separate light right over the machine, it would be hard to see details when sewing. Secondly, the screen where the stitch choices and lengths are listed is hard to read. There is no backlight and the screen is not lighted. With my machine, the main light comes from overhead and behind the machine - therefore the front does not get much light. I actually have a small flashlight next to the machine to shine on the screen to see the info clearly. It was easy to learn how to thread the machine for the bobbin and for sewing. The self threader is not as easy to use as my old Brother, but after a few tries it works. The self threader seems to keep hitting the other parts of the machine when I try to use it. I like that you do not need to bring up the bobbin thread each time. The machine pulls it up itself. The plastic arm that holds the tread spool seems a little wiggly and not extremely sturdy. I hope it holds up over time.
