Good read but with added recommendations!
I have to say I am a fan of 80 10 10 at least as a general outline to eating. Not a necessarily fan of Graham, but don't know him personally so I really can't judge. Those that know him seem to like him though. Probably a better man than me. I just want you to know My recommendation is not because I am a fanboy of his. I no longer eat meat myself but don't judge those that do. (On a side note, I feel better about not being an contributor to the cruelty of factory farming...check out Earthlings.com)And I believe that no healthful benefits come from eating a piece of dead tissue...especially cooked and dead. I continually research for more information on this subject an tweak and change along the path but not really veering too far away from a low fat, plant based diet. One that I personally feel we were designed to eat. I see a lot of complaints about this diet slamming adrenals, mal-absorption, not thriving, eating 6000 calories a day, etc. My take:...a lot of these problems people are having stem from previous diets, and genetics(from their previous diets), pharmaceuticals, as well as the state our food supply is in today (Pesticides, food picked and stored to ripen, dead soils, etc). These, as well as others, lead to health problems that almost always get back to toxicity, weakened endocrine glands, acids, etc. Most people today are running around with weak adrenals propped up by stimulants from coffee, energy drinks, animal steroids(meat), drugs(pharmaceutical steroids), etc. You eat meat for your whole life, your adrenals quit making epinephrine and nor epinephrine (because you're eating it) so it makes sense that when you take it out of your diet your adrenals get slammed. (If you give a gland a steroid, digestive enzymes, neurotransmitter, hormone, that that gland makes, it quits producing it's own) The adrenals control the kidneys which are the doorway to the great lymphatic system. The Lymphatic system(which the medical world ignores except for cutting it out when it gets clogged from high mucous forming foods), is the sewer system of your body that cleans and detoxifies the acid wastes out of it. And, when those acids remain, so called "disease" moves in. Which is just a name for "toxemia". It's a vicious cycle. These are things that can usually be corrected by diet, fasting, herbs, etc., providing you are not past the point of no return. Everyone is coming from a different stage of health with different problems, and one strict diet plan isn't going to give everyone the same health at the same rate. But I believe through my research 80 10 10 is a good starting guideline and recommend it to my friends as one of many good sources of food/health information. I have read/heard a lot of testimonials of miraculous recoveries from serious illnesses and raw plant based diets such as this. I feel that a diet required to get health back is also the diet that should sustain health. The body is a self healing organism, you cut it, it heals. That is what it does. We just have to get out of it's way and give it time to do what it does. Pharmaceuticals to save your life only, not to be taken for life. Cutting out body parts because they are clogged is ridiculous' Just clean and detoxify them. As far as the calories go, I see evidence that once a body is detoxified through fasts, high fruit diets(a fast in itself), etc. that it requires very few healthy calories to run very efficiently...of course increasing that amount depending on your daily activity and body size goals. But, that detoxification can take years and isn't handled in one fast, or 6 months of good eating. Anyway, I think 80 10 10 is a good basis for that but people may have to push/pull with their diets and numbers and lifestyles to achieve these things. A good start is the elimination of dairy, processed grains/gluten/sugars, dairy, too many starches(too much sugar for already weak adrenals), dairy, and dairy.(did I already say dairy) Do I need to even mention MSG's GMO's, Hydrogenated Oils and High Fructose Corn Syrup? Also, If you feel you must eat meat, okay, make it a little and always combine it with greens and vegetables and not starch. What does that leave...well...fruits ,vegetables, nuts and seeds. Throw a little beans, rice and steamed veggies in there from time to time and you will still be fine and balanced. Although I feel they are not necessary, just more benign as food goes. I would advise people having difficulties/illnesses/weight issues to check out the following people/books/DVDs who in my opinion also have the right ideas/answers. Dr Robert Morse ND...he has a book "the detox miracle source-book" as well as a YouTube channel with tons of answers to your health problems. The Life-Regenerator Dan McDonald...just do a search on Youtube.. just a guy that promotes fruits, vegetables, and most of all "Love" He is a good motivator and seems to have balance although he is a self-admitted work in progress himself. Dr Thomas Lodi "An Oasis for healing"....Cancer doctor with great results, mainly focusing on getting back to our natural diet. Sharp guy, check him out. Books/DVDs like: "Toxemia Explained" by John Tilden "Improving on Pritikin: You Can Do Better" by Ross Horne "The Mucous-less Diet" by Arnold Ehret "Fasting can save your life" by Herbert Shelton "A Way Out" by Mathew Grace "The Master Cleanse" by Stanley Burroughs "Fat, Sick, and nearly Dead" "Forks over Knives" "The Gerson Therapy" "The Beautiful Truth" and the list goes on. By the way, everyone will have an opposing opinion to all of these,(especially the medical industrial complex) so empower yourself with information and make your own decisions. Also, look to nature and see what the animals biologically closest to you eat(the primates) and how when animals get sick, they stop eating and lay down and rest (fasting) until they get better. Most importantly, Spirituality. Slow down, pray, meditate, have gratitude and serve others less fortunate than you.
