If you are reading this, you are having Ant problems. I would like to share my experience so that you know the right way to kill Ant and don't need to spent the effort (of study and kill) like I did to get ride of Ant. I am having Ant problem this year in the kitchen, front window, and upstairs bath room. I have done lots of research about how to dealing with Ants and tried many products (Terro indoor/outdoor liquid bait, Terro Aerosol, Terro Insect Bait, Terro Ant Dust, Ant Max Bait Station, Ortho Home defense Max, Ortho Ant dust, Ortho Bug-B-gun, and others, etc... After 2 months of fighting and now finally, I get ride of Ant. I am writing this review. I. Knowing the Products: 1). Liquid bait: It works pretty well (sweet Ants). However, some problems: A). Tt does not work all the time. Some Ants just don't eat it (protein Ant)a. We observe there are ants avoid liquid bait for one week and finally use other method to kill them (see below). B). It takes a long time (from 5 days to 8 weeks). C). Ant is not necessary eat it right away. In some case, tt take a while for Ants to eat it (even we put bait with on Ant's path. D). 95% of Ant die within 3~5 days. However, some Ants still show up here and there once a while. 2). Dust and Aerosol: Kill Ant instantly on contact. Also, prevent Ant to come back. However, Ants can still walk over floor was spray (dust). They might die much later somewhere else. 3). Home Defense and Insect Bait: Not as strong as above product. It is good to use for prevention. Ant die if Home defense spray on them directly. However, Ants walk over the sprayed floor without any program. 4). Bug-B Gon. I apply three time with water them down. And it does not seems to work too well to solve my problem. II. Knowing Ants: 1). Ants likes 2 of 3 following items: food, water, and shelter. => Don't let Ants have what they like. They won't come. 2). Need to kill the Queen in the colony to solve the problem. However, it takes a long time. 3). Two type of ants (sweet and protein) so use different bait for them. III. Fighting procedure: 1). Finding where they come from: This is very important. Use peanut butter on index card (or indoor liquid bait) to attract Ant. Following the Ants to trace down where they come from. Most of time, they come from the hole (in the wall) where water pipe come in. => Use outdoor bait outside near where the pipe come in. If you use indoor bait, make sure don't disturb Ants once they take the baits (even it is very disgusting) 2). Finding Ants Outsides: Walk around your house and visually exam to see if you see Ants around your outside wall, foundation. => Use Outdoor baits (use more than one at one time) outside on place you find the ants. 3). Once Ant disappear (or reduce to less than 5%, wait for 1 week after Ant take the bait). a). Use Dust (need a sprayer) or Aerosol on the hole (where Ant come in) or Ant's colony (2 ~ 3 times) until Ant completely disappear. b). Use plumber putty to seal the hole inside or caulk the outside crack. 4). Use Home Defense indoor along wall (as instruction) around the house. 5). Use Home Defense outdoors on the house perimeter. 6). Repeat step 5 before Sprint time and once every 2 months. Hopefully this helps you to fight Ant completely.
