Portable, App Supported, Safety First!
LaserPecker Pro Laser Machine was exciting to try. I'm not at all familiar with laser engravers, so this was a first for me. I do most of my art by hand with the aid of the most versatile tools available. I hope that my review as a complete novice will be helpful to you. The LaserPecker I ordered is the L1 Pro Super bundle. It ships in a cardboard shipper that is lined with foam. The machine is enclosed in a case to hold each component of the set securely. It's important to read the enclosed literature first. This can be a very dangerous product under some circumstances. Children, pets and people that are unable (or unwilling) to follow safe directions to protect themselves should never be in contact with this machine, the laser can cause permanent damage to a living being. It is also an extremely delicate tool. You must follow all the safety protocols, and become familiar with them before operation. I'm laser certified and operate high-powered lasers as part of my medical job, so I take the safety aspect of products and materials very seriously. This product is not difficult to use, but it is not a toy, it's a power tool. I cannot stress enough to be very vigilant with this personal use laser engraver. Always, always wear the safety goggles. You can order more safety goggles, but you cannot order new eyes. In the Super bundle you will find a pair of goggles, tripod, a specialty magnetic shield, 2 markers, testing paper cardstock, literature, a stand, ruler, guide mat, USB-C power cords with wall adapter and the L1 Pro laser unit. The stand has two hinges that unfold easily. I found the cords intuitive and easy to attach to the stand and the second is between the stand and laser unit. I strongly suggest having canned air and a microfiber cloth on hand to remove dust from the laser's lens. Do not ever touch the lens with your fingers, it's nearly impossible to completely clean away skin oil and similar contaminants from this surface. Instead, use your canned air and microfiber cloth to remove any dust that may land on the lens before use, it can affect the quality of your work. Work in a well-ventilated area as lasers produce plume (fine particulate smoke). Depending on the material you are engraving, this may cause some toxic vapors to escape into the environment. Once you inspect the kit, the assembly is very easy. It's important to follow the directions to a 't'. The laser's lens should only be placed between 19cm and 20cm from the surface of your item. I found that consistent colors engrave much more evenly and smoothly than a surface with varied darkness. It's a great idea to have some uninterrupted time to become familiar with the operation and limitations before beginning. I did find the app difficult to use. There is not a way to explore the app without the laser being powered on and connected. The laser is dependent on the mobile app. You must first register with a valid e-mail address to obtain a verification code and set an app pass-code on your mobile device. I had a difficult time getting the laser to pair via Bluetooth to my phone. It took several tries of re-starting my phone and the laser unit itself to pair. It also requires some phone settings to be adjusted, and surprising permissions to be granted. I was very annoyed that the operation of the laser is dependent on my phone's GPS being turned on. I do not see the logic behind this and find it invasive. Upon initial operation, the app forces you to do a tutorial with the provided test sheets. I found that washi tape was useful to hold the cardstock test sheet in place despite the air flow from the fan inside the stand. I found the test sheet engravings look very crisp, even for very small fonts. I next decided to use my own material, which is a round untreated wood slice from a tree branch measuring approximately 12cm by 10cm and 1cm thick. I made an adjustment for the change in distance from the working surface to the laser's lens using the adjustment buttons located on the stand. I choose a photo from my phone's album and was easily able to crop it into a circular shape. I used the centering preview to place my wood centrally. I picked a photo of my cat, with a light colored floral bedspread in the background. This photo took approximately 1 hour to complete engraving. The quality was good, but as a learning point, the rings in the wood did create an uneven replication in engraved saturation. In future endeavors, I will be more mindful to use evenly colored materials. I am currently considering unfinished wood veneer for my next experiment. The factor of value will vary from user to user. This laser has some limitations for the materials which are compatible and surface space it can engrave. It is also very dependent on the app, which is new to the market and only works with mobile devices, not a PC. It cannot operate offline and the permissions I find invasive. I've not found a need to contact anyone for product support, but the enclosed literature includes QR codes to connect users on a very popular social media platform to exchange information and contact information for company representative support. The best point of the LaserPecker Pro Laser is the size. Other laser engravers take up an entire desktop, this one takes very little space to operate. It can be powered by a power bank. I do wish the goggles had their own protective case, or there was a better space for them in the laser's case. I will be ordering a second pair, and cases for the goggles separately. I wish they were stocked in the company's Amazon store. The goggles are extremely important for user safety. The lack of a goggle case and the invasiveness of the app are the reasons I cannot give the product a 5-star rating. Thank you very much for reading my review. I hope you found it informative and Helpful. Please be kind and click the Helpful button below.
