I absolutely LOVE this mat! No wonder it has gotten so many 5 star reviews! No more plastic granules from the Cat Genie Automatic Litter box tracking all over my house (from both my cat and them sticking to my own feet). 95% of them stay right on the mat and if it was even bigger it would easily be 99%! My cat box (and mat) are located in a small laundry room, when you enter and exit, you have to step directly on this mat each time and it feels great on your bare feet, and because the holes are so deep (as you can see in the pics) you don't even track them on your feet from stepping on the mat. Each hole can hold many many granuals before it even touches the top of the mat, I would just guess easily atleast 8, one pic I show has 3 in the hole so you can see for yourself. It's really a fabulous mat. I got the large rectangle mat and I'm glad I went up a size. You won't regret it. Also a tip, I don't separate the mat when I shake it back into the box, I just fold into a C shape and shake it over the box. If you try to open up the 2 pieces of the mat, spread them apart while shaking at the same time, they will tend to fly all over. Hope this helped my Cat Genie peeps out there.
