An honest review
I bought this book after hearing about it on Twitter. My kids are teens now, but I have a large and diverse library of children’s books because I was diligent about reading aloud to them from birth to tween years. Anyway, I decided to purchase it and provide an authentic review, not one that is from a Pence hater or a Pence lover (I am a Libertarian).
So, this book was cute and provided interesting details of a day in the life of a Vice President of the US. The ONLY religious thing in it is a page about “Grampa” reading his Bible at the end of the day.
I’ve seen many complaints from about the illustrations being washed out, which is comical to me because Beatrix Potter books, which are timeless, use the same water color effects. However, to be honest, the illustration drawings were just okay. This book is a mother-daughter venture, with VP Pence’s daughter writing it and his wife illustrating. While that is sweet in it’s own way, I think a professional illustrator should have been used.
Lastly, for adults purchasing this book who don’t have children, this book is meant to be read aloud, with rhythm that you’d use reading to a child. If you read it silently to yourself it doesn’t work as well, so don’t judge it before reading it out loud.
