TDS begin ~230ppm, TDS end ~15ppm
I remove a star because it does not purify the water to 0 ppm. Actually if you wait to test the tds until the entire gallon brews, it will test at 0 ppm because it will be diluted enough. I tell you about the TDS 15ppm because I discovered through extensive testing and communicating with a MegaHome representative, that although this distiller DOES have a VOC valvce, it is still not capable of removing ALL VOCs, therefore, since VOCs evaporate at a lower heat than water, the initial inch or two of water during the beginning of the distillation will contain between 10-20ppm TDS, and it gradually drops down to 0ppm for the rest of the gallon. So at first I was just dumping the first 2 inches down the drain and was getting 0 ppm water so I was very happy, but this was wasting nearly an hour of the distillation process and wasting water, so I discovered that if I just dump the initial 2 inches of water into the ZeroWater filter I got from Target for $40 that it gets the water to a true 0ppm TDS.
In summary: My method (the method I recommend) is to distill your water with this distiller and then pour it through the ZeroWater water filter/pitcher, then it will be truly 0ppm and ready to drink. This creates the best tasting (or should I say tasteless) water I have ever had! Plus, since the water is already nearly pure when poured into the ZeroWater pitcher, it extends the life of the filter tremendously: I've been doing this process for 5 months and my water is still 0 ppm so I haven't even had to buy a new filter for the ZeroWater pitcher yet, and I brew 2 gallons a day like clockwork. I hope this review helps, if it does please click that it was helpful, thanks.
