One part of a successful treatment for kidney failure
This product has been one part of a four-part approach to treating my dog's failing kidneys. The dog is a 15-year old, 29 lb, Wheaten Terrier. Six months ago she was diagnosed with badly failing kidneys. The vet put her on a low protein diet and said that dogs usually don't last very long with kidneys in this condition. I immediately did four things. (1) After reading the online clinical literature to make sure it was safe for dogs, I started adding 50 mg of R-Alpha Lipoic Acid to her food twice daily, am and pm, as I knew this should help the kidneys. (2) I added about 2/3 of a scoop of this product, Kidney Restore for Cats and Dogs, to her food am and pm. (3) I added an herbal supplement (about 2/3 dropper full) called Pet Wellbeing Kidney Support Gold for Dogs twice daily with meals am and pm. She likes it squirted into her mouth right from the dropper. (4) Lastly I added a level scoop of Epakatin with each meal as a phosphorus binder, since handling phosphorus is an issue for dogs in kidney failure. Results: Last week, which is six months from the initial diagnosis, the latest tests show that my dog has normal, healthy kidney function, according to my surprised vet. I'm gradually adding a little more protein to her diet and cutting back on the phosphorus binder. Of course, since I didn't use this product alone, I can't say definitively that it helped improve her kidney function, but I suspect it contributed and that all of the elements played a role.
