Save yourself some trouble
I want to take a moment to help those that are dealing with toenail fungus. I have tried about every over-the-counter product there is, including Vicks Vaporub which was recommended by a Kaiser podiatrist. I have seen a general physician and podiatrist and taken a systemic drug prescribed by my physician. It didn't work. I accidentally brought up the topic of my toe fungus in a doctor appt with a dermatologist. And that was when I finally got good advice. She told me there are dozen of bacteria that cause toe fungus and to effectively treat it, I needed to do a lab test to check to see what I had. She took some nail clippings and got back to me. She identified what the culprit was and that the systemic medicine I had taken wasn't the right one for my problem. After blood tests to make sure I had a good liver she gave me a prescription for Lamisil. I was supposed to take it for 3-4 months along with Terbinafine Hydrochloride topically. And it started making a difference! I have had this problem for 20 years and finally, finally something really worked. But after a couple months I started itching and breaking out. It was determined that I was allergic to the medication! And I had to stop it. I continue to use the Terbinafine but unfortunately the it is not stopping the growth of the fungus. I do think it slows it down though and I use it religiously every morning and every evening. Bottom line, get your doctor to get some lab tests on it to find out what you are dealing with.
