FINALLY! A truly great, affordable fitness watch that ticks all the marks.
When news broke about the Samsung Gear Fit 2 and I'd devoured all the feature details, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. I'd initially ordered from Amazon, but the estimated delivery date was three days from now, and that was if I paid extra for one day shipping. A certain big box store, who's initials start with BB, promised release day delivery with free shipping. Yeah, I know...bad me.
Anyway, my initial impressions are extremely favorable, but I will update over time to reflect if this works as advertised. In the meantime, what I CAN speak to is:
- VASTLY more comfortable than the original Fit.
- Sharp, bright, colorful screen.
- excellent touch response and accuracy, even with big fingers like mine.
- EASY, flawless set up, which is saying a lot as I'm running this on a Google phone with the beta version of Android N.
- Two HUGE pluses: Phone free music playing over Bluetooth headphones, and built in GPS.
- Flawless build quality.
- Exceptionally reasonable price!
Overall, I get the feeling that Samsung is going all out with the Fit 2, and seeks to establish the brand as the de facto standard for fitness wearables, and simply not building on the original Fit (with the obvious exception in design).

I had to drop a star, simply because of some occasional errant readings on the heart rate monitor, as this IS a fitness device first and foremost, and that's kind of important. I am impressed with the battery life, however, which is somewhere between a Pebble Time and the Fitbit Blaze. You can easily go four days between charges, and that's with GPS active. I REALLY like the music feature, because you can transfer MP3s directly to the Fit 2, connect a pair of Bluetooth headphones, and listen to music while out and about. I also like that you can add Water Intake, Caffiene Intake, and other tracking options, which gives you additional, dedicated screens for each. I also like being reminded if I'm inactive for too long. The notifications are flawless, whereas with the Blaze, I could count on missing a few, even when I had the phone on me. I can easily see the Gear Fit 2 setting the standard in fitness wearables, that is if a firmware update is able to deliver a consistent, reliable heart rate reading.
UPDATE: 10/25/2016
The heart rate sensor is much more accurate now (tested against a chest heart rate monitor). Still wearing it daily, and the support (watch faces, apps, etc.) is fantastic.
